Stanton Mission Report, September 2009

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

Today is Anita’s birthday and what a joy it has been to see her receive so many phone calls and cards! God has richly blessed me with thirty-five years of marriage to her and the opportunity of sharing as many birthdays. Thank you for all that helped to make her day so special.

Since the last mission group left in August things have slowed down some for us here in Huánuco. I have had to cancel a few of my speaking and teaching engagements due to the economic downturn; but the upside is that I have had more time to devote to lesson and sermon preparation. I am hoping to have another Institute class around the first of the year for all of our pastors around the country. My Monday night Bible class for our local pastors has been on pause for the summer but will resume again in two weeks (after Anita and I return from a speaking engagement the end of October).

Anita continues to stay busy writing the Sunday School materials for all ages of our Sunday Schools here in Peru. She spends many hours daily in this. On Wednesday nights she teaches a ladies class at Calvary Baptist. She must be a much better teacher than me because she has about twice as many ladies come to her class as I have men come to mine!

We enjoyed seeing Brother Jason Minix and Pastor George Sledd the first of September. Jason returned to Peru for a few days in order to pack-up his things.  He has felt lead of the Lord to be a missionary with Mountain Missions out of the South Irvine Baptist Church of Irvine, Kentucky. He will be missed here by many, many of the dear Saints of God that he has impacted by his ministry here in Peru. We wish for him and Andrea God’s richest blessings upon their family and ministry.

I had to make a small cut this past month in the monthly offering that Anita and I give to fourteen of our national workers. It is the first time I have ever had to do that in twenty-six years on the mission field. But we know that the Lord is still on His throne and knows what he is doing. The economic crisis has affected so many families and churches in States and the effects of that show up on the mission field as well. But the Lord’s work goes on! We just need to look for more cost-effective methods of getting the gospel out.

Speaking of the national workers, I have heard from about eight of them so far and they all give a good report. In total about fifteen souls were saved this past month between the eight. Our only female worker, Silvia Rojas, is working as a medical missionary at the Diospi Suyana Missionary Hospital in Southern Peru. She is in charge of the laboratory and spends the weekends conducting Bible Clubs for children. She grew up here in Huánuco and I had the joy of pastoring her and her family for several years. She is getting married on the 24th of October and I will be performing the ceremony. She is marrying another young Christian man that works at the hospital. Please pray for Silvia and Benjamin as they start this new life together.

Thanks to each and every one of you that continue to give month after month for the Lord’s work here in Peru. Anita and I thank the Lord for you in our prayers. Until next month.

In HIM by HIS grace,
Sheridan and Anita Stanton

Sermons Back

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

I never got a solution to the sermon audio problem, so I decided to turn the embedded players into links. When you click the link, it will open a new window where you can listen to the sermon. They’re all back now.

I finally finished fixing up the site yesterday. There were a few design issues that needed ironing out, and a few structure issues on the message board; but I solved them. I’m still waiting for word on the sermon audio.

Message Board
Check out the Interact section of the site. You can sign in to it with the same username and password that you created for the blog here. Pastor Sledd has posted some essays in there along with the church prayer list, which you can add to right on the web if you wish. There is a Site Issues and Questions forum if you need to ask me anything or need help with how to use the something.

Avatars
This site uses gravatar.com for its avatars. If you’d like a custom avatar, go over there and sign up with the same e-mail address that you use on jbc.com. You can upload a picture from there and it will show up on the site here the next time you visit.

Sermon Problems

Monday, November 17th, 2008

I’ve been having some issues with the sermon audio lately, so I’ve temporarily taken all the sermons down. The site we’ve been using to host the audio has a player that auto-loads when you open our home page here. This has been causing problems as the number of sermons posted on the home page increases. There’s no reason the player should stream the sermons before you hit play. I have an e-mail in to technical support. Hopefully, they’ll let me know how to remedy this. Thanks for your patience.

Stanton Peru Mission Report

Monday, August 25th, 2008

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Peru once again by the mercies of our Lord! I’ve been in Peru for two weeks now taking care of Mission business and getting our bills paid up. Anita was not able to make this short trip with me because she needed to recuperate a few weeks after her last chemo therapy treatment. I am returning to the States on the 12th of August in order to be there for her operation on the 18th of August. After her operation they will let her recover for about a month and then begin radiation therapy five days a week for six weeks. God continues to be very gracious to her during this “cancer experience.” We thank each of you for your constant prayers and support. We believe the worst part (chemo therapy) is behind us, but she still has a long way to go, so please continue to remember her in your prayers. You can still reach us at the numbers listed above.

It has been a real blessing to be back in Peru after six months in the States. I have been able to help two churches get their new building programs started. Jordan Baptist in Lima will soon be tearing down the old structure they’ve been in for the past twelve years. They outgrew the building years ago and have been putting up extension tents in the street for a few years now. At last they have enough to get the new building started which will quadruple their seating capacity. Praise the Lord with us for this. Also the Grace Baptist Church here in Huánuco has received sufficient funds from the Statesville Bible Institute to build their new meeting house on the property we purchased for them last year. Some pictures are attached.

I also had the joy of purchasing the new motorcycle for Peruvian missionary Miguel Gargate this past week. Motorcycles are cheaper in the mountain town of Huánuco than in the jungle town of Tingo Maria where he lives. He came to Huánuco, we purchased the motorcycle and then he headed back home on the new bike with his brother-in-law as a passenger. The trip normally takes about three hours but it took him six! It rained hard and the fog was thick. But praise the Lord they arrived home safely! This motorcycle will help Miguel enormously in his mission travels. He has three major works he attends too and also a few occasional preaching points in the jungle. Thanks to our dear “anonymous” friend who donated the money for this motorcycle.

Pastors, a few weeks after Anita’s operation I hope to begin rescheduling appointments to come and share with your church the Lord’s work here in Peru. Anita will not be able to travel with me on the long trips but she hopes to be able to accompany me on some of the shorter trips. Please feel free to contact me and I will be contacting those of you with whom I had to cancel earlier in the year. Looking forward to seeing all of you. May our heavenly Father continue to bless you all for your prayers and support!

In Him and by His grace,
Sheridan and Anita Stanton
